Recreation and leisure - getting there and getting around

Phuket is Thailand's largest island at the southern region of the country. Many tourists and locals flock to the island to enjoy its famous mountainous views and crystal clear waters. Here is a Phuket travel guide that will provide you with recommendations with how to get to Phuket to enjoy Phuket sights.

The fastest way to get to the island is by plane. The Phuket International Airport is the second busiest hub compared to Bangkok. With high frequency domestic and international flights, travel to Phuket is easy and the easiest way to reach it is by plane. There is no direct train to Phuket, and travellers must get off at the Phun Phin station and continue by bus for 5 hours to Phuket.

Direct bus services from the mainland to Phuket are also available and leave from Bangkok, Chumphon, Hat Yai, Krabi, Phang Nga, Ranong, Satun, Sungai Kolok and Surat Thani. A recommended bus service from Bangkok is the public buses from the BKS company. The journey is approximately 13 hours. But if you choose to drive, the island is connected to the mainland by the Thao Thepkasattri Bridge.

One last option is also to reach Phuket by boat. Ferry services are available twice a day from the Rassada Port in Phuket to Krabi on the mainland, stopping by Ko Phi Phi on the way. A one-way ticket costs about 350 baht and take about 2 hours. Getting around the island of Phuket is also easy, with choices such as the local buses, taxis, motorbike taxis, cars, bikes or even boats for snorkelling and diving trips.
