While Phuket remains famous for its beautiful beaches, there many things about Phuket, Thailand attractions that you will want to know about. On land, you will find a multitude of unique flora and fauna. A good place to start would be the Khao Phra Thaeo Wildlife Conservation Development and Extension Centre which is in the Khao Phra Thaeo wildlife park.
22 kilometres from Phuket town, it contains lush forest vegetation and giant trees and the Governor’s Palm which is very rare. With a large number of protected wild animals, this is a must-see place for avid naturalists. Still within the wildlife park, there is the Ton Sai waterfall which is a collection of small falls. These falls are especially beautiful during the rainy season and the park management centre has the best views of the falls.
For a different holiday experience or for those interested in conservation, the next place is a different side of what most tourists would visit during their Phuket Thailand travel trip. You can experience first hand a rehabilitation program for captured gibbons in the park. It is located by the Bang Pae waterfall and received volunteers from various parts of the world. You may talk to the friendly English speaking Thai staff who will be more than willing to show you around and to talk about the program.
You can even have your photograph taken with a gibbon, knowing that it is safe, healthy and not being made use of as a money-making gimmick. This is free, but you can show your support for the program by buying souvenirs or even making a donation. Should you want to adopt a gibbon, this is the place for you to make that contribution.
